Somewhat of a vocal chameleon, Laura Long has fronted bands in genres varying from country, folk-rock, soul, jazz and blues. As a regular on the London jazz scene, she has performed with some of UK’s top jazz instrumentalists – but would confess to bending it wherever possible towards blues and soul.

For several years she also ran live jazz nights at various venues across the capital, including organizing the Jazz-Blues stage for the Primrose Chill Festival. Laura has worked in a number of songwriting partnerships.

These days she is busy balancing a hectic singing teaching schedule from her North London studio (wwwlauralong, com) with her big love, 3AM!

Played his first gigs aged about 14 in local community halls and schools in and around Winchester, where he grew up. In the 60’s he abandoned his course at Brighton College of Art to play bass and help form rock band “Reign” in London’s Earls Court with Robin le Mesurier (son of Hattie Jacques and John Le Mesurier). In 1970 they released their first single “Line of Least Resistance” with EMI subsidiary Regal Zonophone – songs written by Keith Relf and Jim McCarty of the Yardbirds. You can still find Line of Least Resistance on Past & Present’s compilation album “A Perfumed Garden: Vol 3”!

Reign played across the country for about four years, supporting Genesis, Argent,The Kinks, Family, Arthur Brown and Curved Air with The Moody Blues at a University ball. They also played a few times at legendary central London venues The Marquee(Wardour Street!), The Speakeasy and Ronnie Scotts.

By now Tim’s brother Andy had joined Reign as drummer. Reign became involved with Mike Batt and helped promote his Wombles by playing on the early albums, and dressing up in the furry suits to play on Top of the Pops on at least eight occasions and touring Europe for several months. (You can identify the band members in these appearances by their instruments –Andy, very obviously on drums, Tim playing his Rickenbacker and Robin with his Flying V.)

In 1975 they formed “Shambles” with Brian Engel and had a recording contract with RCA, released the John Peel acclaimed single “Hello Baby”; eventually Robin left the band to pursue a successful career in the States as a touring/session musician with Rod Stewart and Johnny Hallyday (among many, many others!). By this time, Tim was married, with his first baby daughter to care for, so had to give up on the gigs and get a “proper” job! This didn’t mean he abandoned his music – he not only developed his playing skills, but had another musical project with Andy and another record deal with Decca records.

In 2002, with his children grown up and independent, and the guitar collection grown to ridiculous proportions, it was time to grab brother Andy and get a band back together again. 3am was born. Had a great time with their first line-up, playing over 150 gigs including Northill Blues Fest, the Chichester Blues on the Farm, Mayfest, Togfest, Rhythmfest, Guilfest (twice), Limelight and Queens Theatres, the New Crawdaddy Blues Club in Essex and the 100 Club in central London.

Had time off with several “mis-carriages” from 2008 to find and rehearse a new singer, write some new songs and record a new album “Long Time Coming” with Laura Long.

Member of the Zemaitis Guitar Owners Club where among the Zemaitis players are the Wombles, my fault I did tell them Andy and I owned one! www.zemaitisclub.com also a Walden Acoustic guitar user see:

Learned to play drums in the school cellar – surrounded by cobwebs and huge, but quivering spiders…

Gigged around Hampshire before heading to London– still in contact with school friend Mike Batt; where he was soon in demand as a session drummer. Worked with a wide variety of bands and musicians, from Barbara Dixon to Bernard Cribbins, and played on Hapshash and the Coloured Coat’s “Western Flier” along with Mike and Tony McPhee (Groundhogs).

In between all that, his skills as a graphic artist found him also working for Abbey Road Studios and for The Hollies. During this time he was also drumming for Reign with Robin and Tim and the Wombles, travelling across Europe and performing for Top of The Pops.

With brother Tim above put together 3am, a name he brought from his band in Norfolk; in the early naughties beginning with a friend of Tim’s daughter Emma, Kathleen Pearson-Thomas who now fronts Kat and Co. Kat is instrumental in opening a new venue, ”Stormy Monday Blues” at the Comedy Pub in London’s West End.

3am are now fronted by Laura Long and the new album “Long Time Coming” features tracks written by andy and Laura.

Moving on to the 21st century Andy changed from a DW kit and is now a featured artist on both the Sonor and Paiste Cymbal sites, using a custom Sonor perspex kit with new drum simulator plus custom Paiste cymbal array!

3am Introduce their new bassman Phil Evans:

Phil Evans grew up on a well balanced diet of rock, blues and punk listening to everything from The Sweet and Slade to Chelsea, The Jam and The Ramones, to Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake and Thunder.
His influences include Philip Lynott, JP Jones, Neil Murray, Billy Sheehan and Stu Hamm.
At the tender age of 17 Phil played with NWOBHM stalwarts Boulevard, releasing a single which made the Sounds Rock Charts at no. 3. Since then Phil has played with dozens of rock and blues covers bands in the UK and abroad and spent several years gigging and touring with neo-classical metal band September Gun.
More recently he has been playing with local bands Licor & Poker, The Air Hillares and British Superbike part time rockers Wing And A Prayer featuring legendary Thunder drummer Harry James as well as playing on Syion’s upcoming album.

On keyboards, the other founder-member of 3am, and still a professional session musician.

Studied art at Cambridge (with Pink Floyd!), but came to London to join an English version of Blood Sweat & Tears in the early 70′s. Then got involved in the first of what would become many West Endtheatre productions – with Jack Good and PJ Proby in Catch My Soul.

His keyboard skills made sure he was soon in demand as a session musician, and over the next thirty-odd years he has recorded with or toured the world with many major artists – a very short short-list would include: Hudson Ford, Judy Tzuke, Neil Diamond, Three Degrees, Bobby Womack, Hudson-Ford, Chris Farlowe, Jim Capaldi, Midnight Flyer, Strawbs, Ray Minhinnett, Eurythmics, ACDC, George Michael, and recently Frankie Miller Band.

TV sessions include The Tube, Top of The Pops, Razzmatazz , Old Grey Whistle Test, and the 70’s TV series Rock Follies. Work in theWest End’s Theatre-land include the classic “Hair”and more recently a stint as Musical Director for the Rocky Horror Show.

Having been a family friend of Tim’s for many years, he happily joined 3am when it started in 2002, where his experience and professionalism on stage and in the rehearsal/recording studio make him a much-valued member of the band.
